Am I ever embarrassed!

Holy cow, folks. I was so busy getting ready for this show that I forgot to post about it!! So please accept my sincere apologies for posting late about Get Your Geek On: One Year Anniversary! It was so amazing in so many ways. The best of Portland geeky nerdlesque graced the stage of The Embers Avenue for an amazing evening! I brought my slightly upgraded Prof. Umbridge act to the stage once again, and it was a bona fide hit. Here are the superlative poster (featuring our extremely hot producer Miss Pamela Voorhees), and a shot of Umbridge preparing to whip Hogwarts into shape (photography by Guy Masson). It was truly an honor and a thrill to become part of the GYGO cast! Stay tuned for the next show, coming in January!

NEXT UP! Pre-Existing Conditions: A Burlesque & Variety Revue!

Kudos to Ivana Mandalay and Chris Stewart for coming up with a fascinating and timely idea for a burlesque show! Pre-Existing Conditions will showcase acts based on medical conditions that are in danger of being considered “pre-existing” – therefore, not covered – by whatever weaksauce medical plan the Incompetent-in-Chief and his equally incompetent brown-nosing minions bother to come up with when they’re not too busy saber-rattling and defending white supremacy. With a variety of performances (not just burlesque!) from Glitterati LaReaux, Dominoe DeSoto, Sundae Sparkles, Miss Darby Doll, Karlie Lever du Soleil, Layne Fawkes and Kellie Irwin, this is shaping up to be a great show! Don’t be too loud, though, or you may wake me up (I just might be sleepwalking through my act). And keep your eyes peeled for a cameo appearance by Mr. Arcane!! We’re one week out from my next show already! Produced by the one and only Wanda Bones, this one benefits a cause near and dear to my heart.

SMASH THE PATRIARCHY! is our local Portland burlesque community’s response to the growing opposition to women’s health care rights. We stand together for a cause that we believe is essential to showing that women’s health care rights are human rights. In a world where men are the deciding vote on our bodies and our rights we say NO MORE! Together we are dedicating acts and our time to providing money to our local abortion fund, Network for Reproductive Options, for our team BURLESQUEPDX’s Bowl-A-Thon goal! Come to celebrate, rejoice, be angry, fight the system and help us make a stand for what we believe is right!

Muppets Burlesque Happy Holidays Show!

Now that we’re all grown up and don’t watch Jim Henson’s Muppet Show anymore (well, not that we’d admit) (Loxie sez: Hey, I will admit it and proudly!), the only thing better than Gonzo is finding out that Gonzo is really a beautiful woman who has perfected the art of nearly-nude roller skating and doing the splits. Or maybe you prefer a pants-less Swedish chef or tassel-twirling Miss Piggy? You may get all three if you attend the upcoming Go Go Rocket Productions rendition of MUPPETS BURLESQUE on Thursday December 15 at Funhouse Lounge in Portland.

This troupe of tassel-twirling glittery all stars will leave you with a desecrated childhood and a face stained with tears of laughter. Billed as “a weird and wonderful cabaret inspired by the creations of Jim Henson,” this burlesque event is hosted by local burlesque legend Vera Mysteria (as Miss Piggy!) and stars some of the best known burly acts from Portland, including Baby Le’Strange, Nina Nightshade and Rocket, showcasing their tributes to everything from Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem to The Dark Crystal. Nostalgic and naughty comedy continues with Mister Fogues as a saucy chef everyone will recognize, and the hungry one with blue fur gets crunk with his milk n cookie ladies! One thing is for sure: Go Go Rocket Productions knows how to put on a top notch spectacle, and you don’t want to miss this one!

TONIGHT! Gods & Monsters: A Burlesque Tribute to American Horror Story!

Better late than never, eh? Ack. My apologies folks! If you’re looking for a way to spend this glum, rainy Portland Wednesday night, might I suggest the second edition of Gods & Monsters? I am so thrilled to be returning to Miss Scarlett Thrustmore‘s stage in this incredible show! If it’s half as good as last year’s, well you are in for a mighty fine treat. Unfortunately Mr. Arcane was not available to join me again for our Myrtle Snow/Spalding act, so this year I’m returning solo with an act that I know will be giving you life! Rare Vintage Burlesque Presents: The Strippening!

FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY! Peer into the darkness with us and see what mysteries the shadows hold close to their cold hearts in The Strippening! {thunder and lightning} Yes folks, it’s RVB’s Halloween show and I could not be more excited! Our headliner is the incredible Jacqueline Hyde (and is that not the perfect name?) from Seattle! Our guest performer is The Mayor of Chubbytown herself, Ri Ri SynCyr! And back for another go as our guest MC is the sultry Daria from 105.1 The Buzz! I will be bringing two brand-new acts to this show, and they are probably my most elaborately costumed and propped acts to date. They are both based on beloved horror films, one considered the very first, the other a modern-day classic. I’m very nervous and very excited! I’m especially jazzed to once again be sharing the stage with the mysterious Mr. Arcane for the first time since the Gods and Monsters show last year! Burlesque is fun, there’s no doubt about that. But sometimes we are called to channel that fun and energy into an important cause that affects us all. I am so thrilled to be a part of this amazing benefit show for survivors of rape and sexual assault. Look at that line-up! Admission is on a sliding scale, cash-only basis, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds! Also bring plenty of cash for the many incredible raffle prizes available! Please join us for an evening of sparkling yet thought-provoking entertainment and support your fellow human beings.
